Its attention to the theological richness and historical context of the missing phrase is commendable, drawing us deeper into the mystery of God’s grace in the Eucharist. Fr Christopher rightly emphasizes the humility and reverence this prayer instills, reminding us of our unworthiness apart from Christ’s mercy. This reflection serves as a timely call to preserve the sacred integrity of our worship, ensuring that every word, ancient and new, directs us toward the fullness of God’s grace in Christ.

I always thought the “petition for cleansing” was like the Hebrew poetry of the psalms: say the same thing in two different ways—but I like the connection of body/Bread and soul/Blood very much! Thank you!

The church has a long history of denying the goodness of our bodies and of all creation.

This thought is anathema to modern people. The resurrection is more acceptable! There is nothing more counter-cultural in Christianity that this.
